Lyrically Thoughtful Thursday #4
by theShrinkette on January 15, 2009

{the love experienced in these lyrics might be the weapon of mass destruction that the U.S. has been searching Iraq up and down for}
My love is like a powder keg in the corner of an empty warehouse
Somewhere just outside of town
About to burn down
The Mountain Goats - International Small Arms Traffic Blues

{these lyrics describe a person that did not have an ounce of childhood curiosity or wonderment when growing up. Unlike most of the population, whose soul slowly decays as they age, this person never found excitement at the sight of snow. It can be assumed that he/she would find; cotton candy, popsicles, lollipops, candy necklaces, gummy bears, pushpops, m&ms, airheads, paint chips containing lead, dirt or any other sort of food products that children delight in, to be non-consumable, despicable, and vile substances}
I was never young, even as a child
Said I was never young
I’ve always felt beguiled
Oh, I just never smiled
But you have a glow
From an inner sense I’ll never know
Of Montreal - I Was Never Young

|||theShrinkette’s take:|||{the central character in these lyrics has to suffer a night with a woman who has an unfortunately big stick up her ass. He is hopeful that it can be dislodged with just the right amount of alcohol, but most everyone can assert that those types of conditions are generally permanent} |||Viktor’s take:||| {this suggestion tripped, momentarily stumbled, and quickly fell into love. Drunk on warm emotion (and alcohol), life seemed more and more brilliant. A hopeless romantic? Maybe, but that night it didn’t really matter. It felt alive}
Just as you take my hand
Just as you write my number down
Just as the drinks arrive
Just as they play your favorite song
As your bad mood disappears
No longer wound up like a spring
Before you’ve had too much
Come back and focus again

I’d have to agree with Viktor on Jigsaws, but theShrinkette’s take is definitely funnier. And I’d have to agree with the unfortunate size of said stick.
As for the second song, they secretly wrote it about me.
I win as always. We weren’t going for humor we were going for TRUTH.
theShrinkette was only able to depict the magnitude of said stick because of personal experience…
Yes, I admit I am pretentious but I also shamelessly admit that I am right. The rest of the lyrics mention how she leaves him. He may be in love, but she is just desperate for some wealthy man to come along that will have the financial means to get the stick removed.
…or at the very least encrusted with diamonds.
We seriously need to think of a song with thoughtful lyrics that aren’t depressing.
lol Hokey Pokey wasn’t too depressing I guess. Maybe my take on it was though :/
